Our library is ALWAYS open!
Anyone who attends First Christian Church may use the library.
HOW DO I CHECK OUT A BOOK OR VIDEO?
  • Sign your name and the date you borrow the book on the card inside the book or on the video box. If you are not in the church directory please give phone #.
  • Place the card in the box marked "place card here" on the desk in the library.
  • When you are finished, please return the books inside the drawer marked "return books here".

HOW LONG CAN I KEEP A BOOK?

Our books don't have due dates. We want you to read your book at your own comfort level. Most books take between 2 and 4 weeks to read. I may call to see if you are still using the book if it is out more than 8 weeks.

WHAT ABOUT VIDEO TAPES?

Videotapes may be borrowed for two weeks. There is a limit of two videotapes per person. Please be considerate and rewind tapes and return them inside the book return drawer.

AND MAGAZINES?

Magazines do not have checkout cards. Just borrow them, read what appeals to you, and return them to the rack.

Teacher Appreciation in the Library

Teacher Appreciation in the Library

Nine books were placed in the library in appreciation of our teachers.  Some are books they will enjoy using in the classroom and some are inspirational books that will nourish their own faith.  Hopefully they will have time to enjoy these during the summer when they are not teaching.  These are the books:--the number in parentheses tells you where you can find them in the library.

The Ultimate Gift (F) by Jim Stovall is also out in DVD form.  One of our teachers mentioned to me that she heard the book is better and asked if we have it.  We do now.  This book is the first in a series, so if people like it, we will get #2 also.

Many of our women enjoy books from the Women of Faith ministries.   Sharing A Laugh (248) is a collection of short articles and cartoon favorites by Patsy Clairmont and her friends from Women of Faith.  It’s a good book for busy people because you can pick it up and read a whole article in just a few minutes—the whole book at your own pace.

Randy Pausch was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University when he learned he had terminal cancer.  That’s when he was inspired to write The Last Lecture (248) about living and doing the things that are important to you.  People who heard it were surprised that it is not about dying.  It’s about living.

Jodi told me recently that Max told her recently that he’s a “preteen” now.  When I saw How to Parent Your “Tweenager” (301) by Dr. Mary Manz Simon, I decided Jodi and other parents (grandparents too) in our church just might appreciate a book devoted to kids 8-12 years old.

In God Says I AM. What God tells us about Himself in the Bible—from A to Z (J) Laura Derico retells in short rhymes the many different ways that the “I AM” sentence is finished in the Bible.  Wayne McLoughlin does an amazing job of illustrating the verses.  The actual Bible verse is also found on each page.

Our teachers enjoy using books from “The Beginner’s Bible” series in the classroom.  They are also an excellent choice for beginning readers.  New books in the series are:  Jesus Saves the World; Jesus, Mary, and Martha; Jesus is Risen; and Jesus and His Friends.

A big salute to all of our Sunday School teachers and also to those brave souls who answered the call to get up every weekday morning during the school year to teach our children in the public schools.  You are truly ministers, truly heroes, truly saints.  Have a blessed summer!  Read a book just for fun—not because you have to.
